About HCCC

The best way to learn more about Hill City Christian Church is to contact one of our leaders! They’d be happy to sit down with you and tell you the story of HCCC and our vision for the future. However, below you will find a brief overview of who we are and what we do here.

Our Mission:

The mission of THE Church is most simply expressed as Love God, Love People. This is what we seek to do here at HCCC. It is the heart of the Great Commission in Matthew 28. Jesus describes these two laws as the greatest commandments. Paul tells his readers in Galatians that the entirety of the Law is summed up in these two commands. Love God, Love People. James refers to it as the Royal Law. There can be no mistake that the Church is in the business of love, and these two expressions of love are forever linked in the life of Christians everywhere. See Matthew 22:36-40; Mark 12:30-31; Luke 10:27; Galatians 5:14; James 2:8.

Our Vision:

The mission of the church is universal, but each church fulfills that mission in different ways. This is referred to as a church’s vision. Our vision here at HCCC is “Follow Jesus, no matter where He leads.” This is the one thing we seek to do. It is the one thing we encourage each other with, and it is a powerful statement on a couple of levels. First, we acknowledge that we are not in charge. Our leadership prayerfully seeks the will of God in every single decision we make. It is our hope that our people do the same. If Jesus is Lord, then we are not. May our hearts echo the words of John the Baptist, “He must increase. I must decrease” (John 3:30). Second, we acknowledge in this statement that sometimes Jesus will lead us into places we would rather not go. Still, we follow. No matter what. No matter where. We trust in His power and sovereignty, and we cling to the truth that we never walk alone. We follow Jesus, no matter where He leads. See Matthew 16:24; Mark 8:34-35; Luke 9:23-27; John 21:19-22; 1 Peter 2:21.

Our Core Values:

In order to help us fulfill our vision, our elders have highlighted four areas of special interest to HCCC. These are the four values that we focus on the most, and everything we do is informed and shaped by them. We call these our Core Values.

  1. We Value the Word. We believe that God has revealed Himself to mankind through the Scriptures. The Bible is our authoritative guide for life. If you’re going to follow Jesus, you’re going to need to know who He is and what He does. To do that, you are going to have to value the Word. One way we demonstrated this core value in 2016 was by offering Biblical Interpretation classes taught by our minister. See Deuteronomy 8:3; Isaiah 55:10-11; Luke 11:28; 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:14-17; Hebrews 4:12.
  2. We Value Prayer. This cannot be overstated. When God’s people pray, God moves, and when God moves, the incredible happens. When God moves, the broken are restored, the outsider is brought into the community, and the world can see the glory of the Great I Am. We value prayer here at HCCC. This year we were excited to partner with the Graham County Ministerial Alliance to host a Prayer Walk. If you live in Hill City, someone prayed for you. If you are a member or regular attendee of HCCC, our leadership prays for you every month by name. See Psalm 145:14-20; Ephesians 6:18-20; Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; 1 Timothy 2:8; James 5:14-16.
  3. We Value Multigenerational Ministry. Our goal is for every single person who comes to one of our services to connect with God at some point, regardless of their generation. Whether this is done through passionate preaching, contemporary worship songs, or classic hymns, everyone should connect to something. In addition to that, we strive to acknowledge that those elements we don’t personally enjoy are the same elements that allow someone else to see Jesus. At the end of the day, worship is not about me. It’s about Him. My personal wants and desires are unimportant in the light of His glorious grace. See Romans 12:3-5; 1 Corinthians 10:31-33, 12:12-26; Colossians 3:14-16; Ephesians 2:19-22; Titus 2:1-15.
  4. We value Outreach. The great commission is clear. The mission given to the Apostles in Acts still rings true. We want Graham County (and the world) to know that there is a God who loves them and would give Himself for them. Jesus is still in the business of reconciliation and healing, and we want others to know it. Our small groups engage in outreach projects almost constantly, and all of our members are encouraged to love people to the point that they ask “why.” It is our prayer that God would build His Kingdom here in Hill City, and that He would use us to do it. See Matthew 25:35-40, 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 2 Timothy 4:1-2; 1 Peter 2:9-10
